A field visit to the Sanofi Healthcare India Pvt. Ltd., Verna, Goa, was organized
on 14 th November 2026 for students of Third Year Mechanical Engineering,
accompanied by Prof. Sharad Shanbhag. Mr. Prasad Adapaikar, Lead Process
Excellence and HSE, along with Mr. Ashish Dhavlikar, Hard Services System
Owner Specialist gave a detailed overview of the plant’s utility systems and
their role in supporting uninterrupted pharmaceutical manufacturing operations.
The students learned about the boiler system, which uses light diesel oil (LDO)
or biomass briquettes as fuel to generate steam for process requirements. They
were also introduced to the utility infrastructure comprising air compressors,
chillers, pumps, an air dryer, an air receiver and a cooling tower and their
applications in industrial operations. The students also gained an understanding
of the plant’s electrical power infrastructure, which includes transformers,
diesel generator (DG) sets for backup power and a solar photovoltaic
installation with a total capacity of 1.8 MW, distributed across three locations,
to help meet the facility’s energy requirements. The visit also provided practical
exposure to industrial utility management, including power distribution, thermal
systems, refrigeration, compressed air systems, cooling towers and renewable
energy integration.
