About Library

We at Don Bosco College of Engineering are redefining the role of the 21st century library, supporting the Institute’s programs of research and study in both innovative and traditional ways. Students, faculty and researchers can tap into a vast array of library resources. Our aim is to create and sustain an evolving information environment that advances learning, research, and innovation at Don Bosco College of Engineering. We are committed to excellence in services, strategies, and systems that promote innovations & preserve knowledge. We are catering with resources in all the fields’ viz. Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics & Computer Science / Electronic & Telecommunication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Science & Humanities and General.

The current library building has a total area of 404 Sq. mts. The library is divided into various sections with seating arrangements made for users. The sections are reference, circulation and periodical Section. The library is open on all working days. Our college has progressed and increased the collection over the years and is still updating the services and collection. It is well equipped with Textbook books, Reference books, Journals, E-Journals and E-books. The Library has over 13359 books 2129 titles. The library subscribes to electronic databases such as Elsevier Science Direct. 60 Journals & Magazines are available to faculty, students and other users. Our institute has a book bank facility available for our students. B.E. project reports are also available for reference. Available books can be checked on our intranet using the link http://dbcelibrary/opac/default.aspx. Guidance and assistance is available from the Library staff.

Our college has progressed and increased the collection over the years and is still updating the services and collection. Book Bank for SC, ST, OBC & General

Our Library maintains a book bank to help students belonging to economically and socially weaker sections of the society. Students can borrow a set of books for a period of one semester. The library issues a Circular in the beginning of every academic year and the eligible students may apply to avail the benefit as per the schedule announced by therein.

The library is open for 8 & half hours in a day on all working days except Sundays & National holidays or during days of some importance to the college.

Bound Journals

  • Old journals is bound and maintained for the future use of the students which are meant for reference in the library only.

Project Reports

  • The Library stores project reports of all the students and these are meant for reference in the library only.
  • Total of 575 project reports by our students are kept as archives from 2015 onwards.

Question Papers

  • Hard and soft copies of Semester Question papers from 2011 onwards are maintained in the library. The soft copies are uploaded on Google Drive and the link is shared with the staff and students via email on request to dbcelibrary@gmail.com.

Newspapers

  • Library subscribes to 6 newspapers including 3 local, 2 regional and 1 national newspaper that are available in the library. The library maintains newspaper collections of the prior 3 months. Newspaper clipping service is also provided by the Library.

Digital Library

  • The Digtal Library consists of 23 multimedia computers for staff and students. The vast collection of digital content can be accessed from NDLI, Science Direct and eShelf. NPTEL videos are also available on a hard disk.

Reprography Section

  • Students can photocopy their requirements.

NPTEL Online Courses

  • NPTEL is offering the online courses with a timeline of 4, 8-, or 12-weeks through an online portal.
  • Each week, you need to watch 3 to 6 video lectures (of length 20 to 30 minutes) and attempt one online Assignment quiz at your convenient time and submit with in a deadline.
  • The enrolment to and learning from these courses involves no cost watch video lectures and attempt. Assignment online quizzes.
  • After 2-3 weeks of starting of the course, an option of Registration for Final Exam with the fees of Rs. 1000/1100 will be given. If you’re confident enough, you can proceed to the Exam Registration.
  • A scholarship is provided to the participants from a Local Chapter for SC/ST and low income (5 lakhs per annum). For last semesters, Some of our college students received 50% fee waiver in the exam fees. As per the availability of funds by the sponsors, it may be given this time also.
  • E-certificate from organizing IIT/IISc will be given to the successful candidates of the Final score=25% assignment score(online) + 75% exam(offline) score. To be eligible for a certificate, the learner should have scored >=40% final score. E-verifiable certificates are made available on nptel.ac.in/noc
  • NPTEL conduct final (proctored) exam at different exam centers all over India.

Benefits of NPTEL Course Certificate

  • You can learn the subject from the expert faculties of IITs/IISc.
  • You can get certified by NPTEL and IITs/IISc.
  • In most of the courses, there is a list of industries that will consider this course certificate. NPTEL also shares the toppers’ list to those industries for recruitment purpose.
  •  Students can review and assess their own progress through assignments(weekly).
  • Inculcate mode of self-learning and get access to lectures of IIT/IISc distinguished Faculty
  • You can review and assess their own progress through assignments(weekly)
  • Continuous assessment and interaction with course faculty
  • The certificates issued bear the stamp of CCE, IIT and hence are valuable additions when the student is applying for jobs.
  •  On successful completion of advanced NPTEL course by the faculties, AICTE approves as FDP so that they can get the points for the same. This FDP certificate is given full consideration for promotions under CAS as per AICTE notification.
  • Students can use the NPTEL programmes for GATE and High Studies preparation.
  • Goa university considers the completion of NPTEL courses for credit transfer [4 Weeks – 1 Credit, 8 Weeks -2 Credit and 12 Weeks – 3 Credit]
  •  Certificates recognized by Companies and research centre to give internship opportunity.

Mentors

  • Faculty members who teach the course or in relevant discipline can be a mentor .Should enroll to the course
  • Mentor can only choose upto 2 courses.
  • No minimum number of students to be a mentor; Maximum ratio of 1:50
  • Students have to select the mentor on the portal
  • Mentors can see the assignment scores of mentees
  • Mentors Can help with explaining gaps in taught concepts.
  • Mentors can give more practice assignments
  • Facilitate resources for viewing the lectures
