Academic Year 2026-2027
Event Name : Field Visit at DBL Tower Construction, Approach Road and RDC Plant at Kundaim
Event Date : 31 st October 2026
Event Schedule : 9:30am to 5:00pm
Event Venue : Cortalim, kundaim
The students of Bachelor of Engineering (BE) and Master of Engineering (ME), Semester III,
from Don Bosco College of Engineering, participated in an educational field visit to two important
construction and infrastructure facilities: the DBL Tower Approach Road construction site at
Cortalim and the RDC Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) Plant at Kundaim. The visit was organised to
provide students with practical exposure to construction techniques, foundation engineering,
concrete production and quality control procedures followed in the construction industry.
The first part of the field visit was to the DBL Tower Approach Road construction site at
Cortalim. The visit provided students with an opportunity to understand the various stages involved
in infrastructure development, with particular emphasis on foundation engineering and piling
techniques.
During the visit, the students were introduced to the concept of pile foundations, The students were
also introduced to the piling methodology, gaining an understanding of the sequence of activities
involved in pile construction, from setting out the pile locations and preparing the site to drilling,
reinforcement placement and concreting, depending on the piling technique adopted.
A particularly informative session was conducted by the Project Deputy Manager, who explained
the overall project details and highlighted the purpose and significance of the DBL Tower Approach
Road project. He elaborated on the project's functional requirements, its role in improving
connectivity and accessibility, and the engineering considerations involved in its execution.
In the afternoon, the students proceeded to the RDC Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) Plant at
Kundaim. This visit offered practical exposure to the production of ready-mix concrete, automated
batching operations and the quality control measures adopted to ensure the production of concrete
that meets the required specifications.
The students were introduced to the functioning of a modern batching plant and the different stages
involved in the production of ready-mix concrete. The plant personnel explained how the various
ingredients of concrete, such as cement, fine aggregates, coarse aggregates, water and chemical
admixtures, are proportioned and mixed in predetermined quantities to obtain the desired concrete
mix.
The field visit to the DBL Tower Approach Road construction site and the RDC Ready-Mix
Concrete Plant proved to be an enriching and informative learning experience for the students of BE
and ME Semester III.
The visit helped bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical industrial applications.
Students were able to observe how engineering principles are implemented in real-world
construction projects and understand the importance of technical knowledge, planning, precision and
quality assurance in civil engineering works.
