The Two-Day All India Workshop on ‘Prestressed Concrete Technology: From Theory to Site
Execution’, was organised by The Institution of Engineers (India) Goa Centre under the aegis of
Civil Engineering Division Board on 21 & 22 August 2026 at Don Bosco College of Engineering
(DBCE), The workshop brought together academicians, industry professionals and participants
to provide comprehensive exposure to the theoretical concepts, design practices and site-level
implementation of prestressed concrete technology. A total of 75 participants attended the
programme.
The workshop commenced with an inaugural session graced by Chief Guest Dr. Jyoti Bhusari,
PhD Guide at Pune University and Professor at Sinhgad College of Engineering, Pune. The
session was attended by key dignitaries and organizers, including Mr. Austin S. Rodrigues,
Chairman and Council Member, IEI; Mr. Shashank Shirwaikar, Honorary Secretary, IEI; Mr.
Anwar Khan, Immediate Past Chairman, IEI and Convenor; Fr. Ralin D’Souza, Rector; and
Dr. Neena Panandikar, Principal, DBCE.
Following the inaugural ceremony, the first technical session was conducted by Dr. Manjunath
Bogone, who revisited the fundamental principles of prestressed concrete and discussed the
relevant provisions of BIS codes. The session provided participants with a strong foundation for
understanding the subsequent technical discussions. This was followed by two corporate audio-
visual presentations sponsored by JSW.
After the networking lunch, the afternoon technical sessions commenced with an in-depth lecture
by Dr. Jyoti Bhusari on stress calculations in prestressed concrete. The day concluded with a
technical masterclass by Dr. Manjunath Bogone focusing on the design of post-tensioned
slabs, providing participants with practical insights into structural design considerations and
applications.
The second day began with a detailed session by Dr. Jyoti Bhusari on the ‘Design of post-
tensioned girders. A numerical problem was taken up to demonstrate the application of design
principles in a practical context. This was followed by an insightful session by Mr. Kiran K.
Mohite, Founder and Managing Director of Kiran Mohite & Associates (KMA) and
StrandForce PT Systems on industry practices in the design and detailing of prestressed
concrete elements using software tools, including ADAPT-PT/RC. The session also covered
case studies of prestressed concrete projects from Maharashtra and other parts of India, enabling
participants to understand the practical challenges and solutions associated with prestressed
concrete construction. The workshop further focused on site practices and the implementation
of prestressed concrete systems. His session provided valuable industry-oriented insights into
the execution of prestressed concrete works and helped bridge the gap between theoretical
knowledge and actual site practices.
The workshop concluded with a valedictory session graced by the presence of Hon’ble
Minister Shri Digambar Kamat, PWD, Captain of Ports & Legal Metrology, MLA-
Margao Constituency. Event certificates were distributed to the participants in recognition of
their successful participation in the two-day programme.
The workshop was coordinated by the Structural Engineering faculty of DBCE—Prof. Shruti
Jambhale, Prof. Nadya Baracho, Prof. B. R. Anirudha, Prof. Kaushik Fondekar and Prof.
Genevieve Fernandes, under the guidance of Dr. Shwetha Prasanna. The programme
successfully provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of prestressed concrete
technology, covering its fundamentals, codal provisions, stress calculations, structural design,
software applications, industry practices, case studies and site execution.
Overall, the two-day workshop served as a valuable platform for knowledge sharing,
professional interaction and industry–academia engagement, strengthening participants’
understanding of the application of prestressed concrete technology from theory through design
to site execution.
