Introduction
Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, Goa, organized an expert speech on “AI Agentic” on 1st September 2026. The session focused on Artificial Intelligence Agents, workflow automation, n8n, and their practical applications.
The session was conducted by Mrs. Komala Soares, an experienced academician with over 25 years of teaching experience. She has expertise in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Embedded Systems. She has also pursued advanced studies in AI and Machine Learning and submitted her PhD thesis on Internet of Vehicles (IoV) Security and Data Privacy. She is a patent holder for the TinyOBU hardware prototype and has contributed to research through journals, conferences and book chapters.
Overview of the Talk
The speaker introduced the concept of an AI Agent as an intelligent software system that can perceive information, reason about a goal, make decisions, use tools, interact with other systems and execute tasks with or without human supervision.
A travel-agency example was used to explain the concept. An AI agent can understand a traveller’s requirements, search for flights and hotels, prepare an itinerary, send the required details and even modify the plan if a flight is cancelled or a hotel becomes unavailable. This demonstrated that AI agents can think, plan and act rather than simply provide information.
The session then focused on workflow automation. A workflow was explained as a sequence of connected steps that automates a process from beginning to end. The example of student registration showed how Google Forms, Google Sheets, verification, ID-card generation, WhatsApp and email can be connected into one automated workflow.
The speaker compared manual processes with automated workflows. Manual processes require more human effort, are slower and can be error-prone, while automated workflows are faster, accurate, cost-effective and capable of operating 24×7.
n8n and Practical Applications
The speaker introduced n8n as a platform for creating automated workflows and discussed its applications and working. The session also covered setting credentials for services such as Google Cloud and Telegram, along with the limitations of running n8n on a personal computer and the use of cloud hosting/VPS.
A practical project, the Smart Telegram AI Assistant, was introduced. It can receive text, images and voice messages, understand user intent, process the information using AI and provide personalized responses automatically through Telegram. Another application discussed was the Smart Office Assistant, showing how AI and automation can be used to handle routine office tasks.
Career Opportunities and Learning Outcomes
The session also highlighted AI Agent Developer as an emerging career opportunity. The role involves building AI agents using LLMs, prompts and tools, integrating APIs and databases, implementing RAG and memory, and testing and debugging AI-agent systems.
The talk helped students understand how AI, automation and APIs can be combined to create practical solutions. It also encouraged them to develop hands-on skills and explore AI-based applications.
