CampusBytes: IT Industry Landscape in Goa

C-CODES Student Association of computer engineering department of our college (DBCE) organized CampusBytes: IT Industry Landscape in Goa, in association with Goa Technology Association. The talk was conducted on 11th March 2024, for second and third year computer engineering students. Mr. Mangirish Salekar CEO & CO Founder of UMANG group, Mr. Yashvit Naik Co-Founder and CTO at Teknorix, Mr. Royan Carvalho Founder Director at Carvalho Business Solutions and our moderator Mr. Chinmay Kamat Chief Operating Officer of CopperCodes Consulting LLP.  The coordinators for the event were Prof. Merwyn D’Souza, C-CODES Council members Ved Kerkar as the compere, Vedant Gad, Nikhil Rao and Dhruv Naik.

The session commenced by welcoming the dignitaries with a bouquet of flowers. Each panelist brought unique perspectives and experiences to the table, shedding light on crucial aspects essential for career success in the IT sector.

The discussion began with an emphasis on the significance of interpersonal skills in the workplace. Panelists highlighted the importance of understanding basics, demonstrating precise communication, and having an attitude inclined towards continuous learning. They stressed the need for industry readiness and the ability to apply knowledge effectively.

Technical skills emerged as a key focus area, with panelists urging students not to rely solely on syllabus-based learning. Instead, they emphasized the importance of adapting to changes in technology and focusing on core subjects such as Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA), Databases, normalization, and Unified Modeling Language (UML).

For freshers entering the industry, valuable insights were shared regarding time management, handling pressure, and delivering results within deadlines. Mr Yashvit emphasized the importance of a firm grasp on the basic technology. The panel emphasized the significance of adding value to organizations from the onset of one’s career, highlighting the importance of humility and resilience.

Interestingly, the discussion touched upon non-coding aspects of AI trends, showcasing the evolving landscape of the industry and the diverse opportunities available beyond traditional programming roles. Mr. Mangirish elaborated that a candidate with the right attitude is preferred over the one with all the skills but poor emotional intelligence. He also highlighted the importance of ego management. Mr. Royan quoted “Knowledge is the most valuable asset”, informing the students that their commitment to knowledge acquisition would be the cornerstone of their professional journey, enabling them to navigate challenges and seize opportunities with confidence and competence.

In conclusion, the Panel Discussion provided students with a comprehensive understanding of the intricacies of the IT industry, offering practical advice and insights to navigate challenges and capitalize on opportunities. The session concluded with a vote of thanks given by C-CODES Chairman Mr. Vedant Gad. The event was deemed a resounding success, thanks to the collaborative efforts of both the organizing committee and the esteemed panelists.
