Java Swing Workshop

Second year computer engineering students attended a workshop on “Introduction to Java Swing Programming” on  February 29 , 2020 in Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda Goa. The workshop was organized by C-CODES computer students association. The workshop started at 2.00 pm with a hands-on session in the Computer Department laboratories. Prof. Ankit Kumar Tiwari was the resource faculty for the day. Asst. Prof.  Merwyn D’Souza was the coordinator for the workshop.

Java is a general-purpose computer programming language, completely based on Object Oriented Features. It is also popularly used for web based applications. Hence to design the GUI interface for web applications or desktop applications Java Swings is needed. Java Swing is a part of Java Foundation Classes (JFC) that is used to create window-based applications. It is built on the top of AWT (Abstract Windowing Toolkit) API and is entirely written in java.

The workshop covered the basics of Extended Java Programming Skills with topics like Introduction to Java Swing, Swing Components like JButton, JTextField, JTextArea, JRadioButton, JCheckbox, JMenu, JColorChooser etc., Event handling with Swing Components and various GUI Application designing examples.

In this hands-on course, students gain hands-on experience with Java Swing programming and its event handling features. Students learnt to design GUI Interface for various Java Applications using Java Swing class libraries.
