INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY CELEBRATIONS Report – 2018
The International Yoga Day was celebrated on 21 June 2018 by the staff with great eagerness and enthusiasm at Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda under the NSS-DBCE Unit and coordinated by Prof. Vaishali Parakhi, Prof. Chetan Gaonkar and Dr. Avertano Reis Barreto.

The Principal, Dr. Neena S. P. Panandikar in the presence of Dr. Kala Nayak, Registrar welcomed everyone and introduced the Chief Guest, Mrs. Dr. Shashi Parkar to the gathering.
Brief Introduction of the Chief Guest: |
Dr. Shashi Parkar, MBBS in Forensic Medicine and Post-Graduation in Obstetrics and Gynecology was in service with Directorate of Health Services and served Goa Government for 37 years. During this stint she worked in Shiroda, Ponda, Margao Hospicio Hospital, Curchorem, Curtorim, and Bicholim as HEALTH OFFICER. For last ten years she has been a Yoga Teacher to Patanjali Yog Peeth of Haridwar and also works for Rajyoga of Bramhmakumari with Head Quarters at Mount Abu. She is a life member of Indian Medical Association and Indian Red Cross Society.
Talk on Stress Management: |
Dr. Shashi Parkar gave an enlightening talk on Stress Management. In her talk she stated that stress is due to external pressure and inability to cope with it. She educated the gathering on various ways to cope up with stress and its management and thus live a healthy life.
Yoga Session: |
Before the demonstration, Dr. Shashi explained the meaning of Yog as ”Union with the Cosmos“ and then illustrated Pranayama and elaborated on its importance and benefits. Prof. Suarj Marathe from Mechanical Department and Dr. Shashi demonstrated the various Asanas and stressed on the need to be practiced every single day. She elaborated the point that regular yoga practice lead to the better mental, physical and intellectual health. It positively changes the lifestyle of the people and increase the level of well-being.
