On the 25th of August ’18, the Department of Science and Humanities organised the Inaugural function of the SEEDS committee for the year 2018-19. The day-long event was divided into two sessions.

The first session was attended by the dignitaries of the college and the chief guest- Mr. Milind Anvekar, Vice president of Projects and Customer Services  – Open Destinations . It began with a prayer song performed by the student choir. Prof. Natasha D’souza e Jaques introduced the first year students’ association- SEEDS, and said that Innovation will be the theme of the year. As a symbol of nurturing the students, the dignitaries then watered a plant and each were presented a sapling. The new students’ committee members were introduced and an oath was administered by Prof. Gladys D’Silva. As a appreciation for their effort, the outgoing committee were gifted a token. Mr. Shivam Naik, the Chairperson of SEEDS, unveiled the plans for the academic year 2018-19.

The Principal, Dr. Neena Panandikar welcomed the dignitaries and encouraged the students to get on the journey of innovative thinking.  Following this, the Director, Rev. Fr. Kinley D’Cruz inspired the students to walk on the less trodden path and motivated them to “dare to be different” by quoting the famous poem ‘The Road Not Taken’ by Robert Frost . Dr. Kala Nayak then introduced the Chief Guest, a man of great achievements. Mr. Milind Anvekar

Mr. Milind Anvekar , shared some of his innovative ideas which took the audience by awe. He stressed on three pointers:

1) Have the right attitude

2) Maintain an aptitude for problem solving

3) Develop soft skills.

This was followed by a prize distribution to the students who had won various competitions that were held in the year 2017-18. The vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Nikhil Chinchawade, the Secretary of the SEEDS Council.

The second half began with a session on ‘Constructive Innovation’, by Mr. Raunak Hede, a std XI student form Sharada Mandir, who shared his experiences of robotic ventures. He also spoke about how constructive innovation is the need of the hour.

Events such as ‘Win the rounds’, a quiz on curriculum and general knowledge along with a treasure hunt saw the students enthusiastically participate and score points for their respective classes.

Post lunch, the students participated in ‘Mime the Model’, which was judged by  Prof. Madhuraj Naik, Prof. Ramnath Prabhu Bam, Dr. Varsha Turkar, Prof. Manisha Faldessai
