One Week workshop on Advanced Programming Languages 4th July to 9th July 2016
C-Codes Computer Student Association along with the Computer Engineering Department, DBCE organized a one week workshop on Advanced Programming Languages. The workshop was conducted for one week from 4th July 2016 to 9th July 2016. The workshop was attended by Third Year Computer Engineering students of Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, Goa. The workshop coordinator was Prof. Merwyn D’Souza.
The workshop aimed at training our students in the Advanced Programming Languages (Java and Python). The workshop was conducted over a period of 5 days at the college campus which involved theory lectures as well as practical sessions. The resource faculty for the workshop was Prof. Amrita Naik, Prof. Lilavati Samant, Prof Christina Barretto and Prof. Kiran Waghmare.
The workshop began with an introduction to the Python programming language. Python is a widely used high-level, general-purpose, interpreted, dynamic programming language. Python emphasizes code readability and allows programmers to express concepts in fewer lines of code.
The first day of workshop students learnt about how to install python and run their first python programs and the basic concepts in python like data types, loops, operators, lists and dictionaries, functions and classes and objects.
On the second day of the workshop the students learnt about GUI programming using Tkinter. The following GUI elements were shown like buttons, menu, canvas, checkbox, radio buttons, label and entries, listbox, date & time.
In the last two days of the workshop the students were introduced to Java programming language. Java is one of the most popular programming languages used to create Web applications and platforms. It was designed for flexibility, allowing developers to write code that would run on any machine, regardless of architecture or platform.
The following topics were covered in Java like introduction to java, programming using netbeans, operators, constants, branching, classes, methods, method overloading, static variables, inheritance and types of inheritance, strings and applets.
The workshop was interactive as well as hands on, with simultaneous practical sessions conducted by resource persons. The objective of this workshop was to deliver important programming skills which would be beneficial to students with regards to their placements in their final year.
C-Codes Computer Student Association is very grateful to the Director Rev. Fr. Kinley DCruz and the H.O.D of Computer Engg. Dept. Prof. Gaurang Patkar for their kind guidance in successfully conducting the workshop.
