BIS Stakeholders Conclave at Taj Vivanta
On 8th October 2024, the BIS Club members, accompanied by Co-ordinator of BIS Club Prof. Mohini Naik, attended the BIS Stakeholders Conclave at Taj Vivanta, Panaji, Goa. Organized by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Hubli Branch Office, the conclave featured a series of talks from government officials, industry leaders, and academics, focusing on BIS standards, licenses, and sustainability initiatives.
The event began with the lighting of the lamp at 11:00 AM, accompanied by the singing of the “Manak Geet.” Shri D.P. Kumar, Scientist-E and Director of BIS Hubli Branch, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the mission of BIS and its importance in ensuring quality standards across various sectors. This was followed by a message reading from Ashutosh Agrawal, Scientist-B and Assistant Director, underlining the significance of adhering to BIS regulations. Shri Jayant G. Tari, Director of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Goa, delivered the keynote address, speaking on the impact of BIS standards on civil supplies and their role in consumer protection. He shared insights on how BIS works with the government and industries to ensure that products meet the required quality and safety standards.
Dr. Divya Singhal, Professor at the Goa Institute of Management, delivered an insightful talk titled “Sustainability and Indian Standards: Promoting Green Manufacturing and Eco-Friendly Practices.” Dr. Singhal elaborated on the pressing need for industries to adopt sustainable practices that align with BIS standards. She stressed the importance of reducing the environmental impact of manufacturing and encouraged businesses to integrate eco-friendly processes into their operations. Her presentation highlighted how BIS standards are evolving to incorporate sustainability, promoting responsible resource use, and reducing carbon footprints in industrial activities.
The session on BIS concluded with an overview presented by Shri M. Pradeep Kumar, Scientist-C and Deputy Director of BIS Hubli Branch. He provided a detailed explanation of BIS’s objectives, its role in ensuring product quality, and how its standardization efforts benefit both consumers and industries alike.
The conclave provided an enriching platform for dialogue on the role of BIS in promoting quality standards and sustainability. Sessions were well-received, with particular attention paid to how BIS is working towards integrating green manufacturing and eco-friendly practices into its regulatory framework.
