Entrepreneurship and Intellectual Property Rights
The Department of Civil Engineering -Don Bosco College of Engineering organized a lecture on October 27, 2021 on ‘Entrepreneurship and Patent ’. This lecture was organized to bridge the gap between the industry and academia. The speaker for the lecture was Mr. Jason Almeida , Commercial Pilot turned entrepreneur and the owner of the RAZE- ergonomic manual grass cutting tool. The talk was organized By Asst. Prof. Jeffrey Valadares who is engaging the Subject of ‘Entrepreneurship and Intellectual Property Rights’ as a core subject for the Third year Civil Engineering students.
Mr. Almeida began his lecture by introducing the class to the concept of pain points and made the students understand the driving force that led him to design a manual grass cutting tool, keeping in mind ergonomics.
He also displayed the different prototypes he made in the process to obtain the final design and explained to the students why he made changes to the prototypes and how he finalized on the design.
Mr. Almeida explained to the students on the process of patent as he had applied for patent for his design and the tool. He explained on what the different concepts in marketing are and how he plans to expand in the market with his product.
“Scaling up and mass production is always a dream of any startup” Mr. Almeida spoke about selling his product on e-commerce websites and the Nitty-gritties involved with e-commerce.
At the end of the session the students were taken to the ground and a live demo of using the tool was demonstrated. The total number of students who attended the lecture was 71.
