Expert talk on “Introduction to Wavelet Transform”

Dr. Varsha Turkar, HOD, Dept. of ETC, organized an expert talk for Sem VII students of ETC Dept. on October 15, 2020 on “Introduction to Wavelet Transform”. The expert invited was Ms. Harshula Tulapurkar. Ms. Tulapurkar is currently Head of TruBI implementation at Datamatics Global systems. She has more than 15 years of experience in the field of the software industry and has played varied roles from developer to program management. She has both onsite and offshore development experience and worked on many international projects. Currently, she is pursuing her Ph.D. at IIT Bombay in the field of dimensionality reduction of hyperspectral images.

Ms. Harshula began with what is Discrete Fourier Transforms (DFT), advantages and disadvantages of DFT and how the disadvantages of DFT are overcome by Discrete Wavelet Transform. She shed light on the importance of Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT). She also explained various applications of Wavelets in Image Processing.
The feedback from the students is exceptionally good and many students shared that the lecture helped them realize the importance of DWT. They also mentioned that they would like to attend some more ‘beyond curriculum’ sessions in the future.
