Expert Talk on the topic ‘Use of Augmented Reality for Engineering Education’
The IETE Student Branch of Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda-Goa organized an expert talk on the topic, ‘Use of Augmented Reality for Engineering Education’ under the IETE Goa Chapter. The talk was held on 16th October 2019 from 2 PM to 4 PM at the DBCE Seminar Hall-1. Talk was open for faculties of various branches and also for interested students.
The talk was delivered by Dr. Jonathan Joshi, CEO of Eduvance. Eduvance is a premier training centre based in Mumbai which trains engineering students and faculty in various domains. They have also launched an app to teach students using Augmented Reality (AR).
Dr. Jonathan Joshi first explained what is AR and the difference between AR and virtual reality VR. He spoke about the different modules associated in building an AR environment. While explaining the expert speaker also gave a few research gaps in the field of Augmented Reality. Later he gave examples on how to use AR to deliver engineering education content using an example for Basic Electronics subject. The expert also covered examples and use cases on how to teach students using AR. The resource person also gave faculty members an opportunity to look at platforms available where they can build their own AR apps such as EduvanAR, Builder, SketchUp etc. Finally he gave a demo of drone assembly using AR app developed by his company Eduvance.
After the talk there was a healthy discussion among the expert and attendees wherein the expert cleared any doubts on the topic of AR. Before calling it a day, the expert encouraged faculty and students to use AR for better understanding of engineering subjects and knowledge impartation.
