Exposure Visit to Finolex Company Organized by the Bureau of Indian Standards Club

On 26th August 2024, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) organized an exposure visit to Finolex Company, a renowned manufacturer of electrical and electronics cables. The visit was attended by a group of 16 students, who were accompanied by Prof. Mohini Naik, Coordinator of the BIS Club. The visit was aimed at providing students with insights into the manufacturing processes of various types of cables and understanding the quality standards upheld by the company. The entire visit was explained by Mr. Madhu Babu, AGM QA, and Mr. Maharajawade, Sr. Manager Production

During the visit, students were taken through various stages of the cable manufacturing process, including: Raw Material Selection, Wire Drawing, Annealing, Stranding, Insulation, Cable Laying, Testing and Quality Control, Packaging and Dispatch.

The visit provided valuable insights into the stringent quality control measures implemented at every stage of the manufacturing process. Finolex’s commitment to maintaining high standards was evident in their state-of-the-art facilities and adherence to BIS norms. Students learned about the importance of material selection and process control in ensuring the safety and durability of cables. The exposure to advanced machinery and technology used in cable production was particularly enlightening, demonstrating how innovation is integral to maintaining product quality.

This visit offered a comprehensive understanding of the manufacturing processes involved in electrical and electronics cables. It not only highlighted the critical role of quality control in the industry but also reinforced the importance of adhering to BIS standards in ensuring the safety and efficiency of electrical products. The students were provided with practical knowledge and a deeper appreciation of the standards governing the electrical and electronics industry.
