FIELD TRIP TO THE DISTRICT AND SESSION COURT COMPLEX, MERCES

The Second year Civil Engineering students of Don Bosco College of Engineering visited the new District and Session court at Merces on 28th Sept 2019 along with Prof. Starina Dias and Prof. Kaushik Fondekar.

On visiting the site the students were made aware that the building is a four storeyed structure with a parking space in the basement wherein upto 250 vehicles could be kept approximately. It was made known that the total area of the basement is 7800 sqm, the first floor area is 7500 sqm, the second and third  floor area is 6500 sqm , fourth floor area is 5500 sqm and the stilt area is 7800 sqm. It was made known that the total build up area is 20000 sqm. The In- charge at the site explained to them that the type of foundation used at the site was mainly pile foundation which went to depths of 12m to 13m and had a diameter ranging from 500mm to 800mm. He mentioned that the building would have 20-Court Halls, 20-Judge Chamber Room, 2 -Judicial Room, 4- Advocate Rooms, 3- Superintendent Rooms, 19-Steno Rooms, 4 – Record Rooms etc. He also stated the various grade of concrete that were used for the columns and the main structure.

The students went on to see the various structural members in a  building, Fly ash bricks and blocks that were used for construction, ways of transporting construction material to vertical heights, flat slabs, type of staircase employed like dog legged staircase, different diameter of  steel bars used in the construction of the project etc.

The students were also made aware that the project commenced in the year 2016 and would be  completed in the year 2020.They were told that the  consultant of the project is M/s Shrikhande Consultants Pvt. Ltd , the contractor is M/s. M. Venkata Rao Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd and the  clients are GSIDC.
