Field Visit to Astra Metal Systems Ltd. and GMI Zarhak Moulders Pvt. Ltd. For Second Year (SE) Mechanical students.

On 11th August 2018, students of Second Year Mechanical Engineering of Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda visited Astra Metals Systems Ltd. and GMI Zarhak Moulders Pvt. Ltd situated at Verna Industrial Estate. Students were accompanied by Prof. Chetan Gaonkar and Prof. Sachin Turi.
GMI Zarhak Moulders, is a Rotomoulding manufacturing company. The Company manufactures and markets successfully the well-known SHAKTI Brand of Water Tanks, Loft Tanks, Barrels, Septic Tanks, Vermi Composting Bins, In-line Grease Traps, Roller Bins, Dustbins, Bio Digester and Water Harvester. The students were exposed to the manufacturing process of the tanks, right from the raw material to the finished testing of the tanks. The students got in detail exposure to the Rotamoulding manufacturing process. Students got an opportunity to see and understand the different moulds required for the manufacture of the tanks. The quality checks and the defects leading to rejection were explained to the students. The students were initially addressed by the Head of the company, Mr Blaise Costabir and later on guided in three batches by the Site Engineers.
Astra Metals Systems Pvt. Ltd is an end to end solutions provider for Precision Sheet Metal Works including fabrication and assembly. The students were exposed to the different sheet metal operations carried out in the industry. Students got an opportunity to see the operations such as Punching, Bending, Laser cutting, Fabrication and Powder metallurgy process. The students were guided by Mr Pritam (Manager Quality), Mr Murad Abdul Mullah (GM, Operations) and Mr. Charlton Collaco (CEO) of the company.
The visit was organized by Prof. Chetan Gaonkar, Prof. Yogesh Tarkar and Prof. Sachin Turi and planned by the Head, Prof. Ajit Salunke. Overall it was a very enlightening and learning experience for the students of SE Mechanical.
