Field Visit to Turbocam India Ltd for Final Year Mechanical students
On 20th March 2019, students of Final Year Mechanical Engineering of Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda visited Turbocam India Ltd, Margao Industrial Estate. Students were accompanied by Prof. Ishan Kossambe and Prof. Sachin Turi.
As a part of bridging the gap between the theoretical concepts learned in CAD/CAM course by the students in class and the actual practical aspects of CNC manufacturing, the visit to industry was planned. Turbocam is a global turbomachinery development and manufacturing company that specializes in 5-axis machining of flowpath components.
The visit started with an awareness of safety on shop floor, company profile and product demonstration. The students were divided into groups of 20 each. The students were shown working of various CNC machines like horizontal, vertical lathes and milling machines. Machining operation of various components like nozzle ring, impellers, turbine blades etc. was explained in depth.
Practical demonstration of Quality checks for raw material using “Eddy current Test’ for sub surface cracks was demonstrated. CNC operated coordinate measuring machine was demonstrated to the students. The students were guided by company training officer Mr. Gilroy Coutinho and the Team Leader of Machining.
The visit was organized by Prof. Sachin Turi and Prof. Ajit Salunke, Head of Mechanical dept. Overall it was a very enlightening and learning experience for the students of BE Mechanical.
