Field Visit to Varun Beveragesand Chowgule and Co. Pvt. Ltd. (Mining Division – Costi) For BE MECH

On 10^th February 2018, students of Final Year Mechanical Engineering of Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda visited Varun Beverages Ltd. and Chowgule & Co. Pvt. Ltd. (Mining Division – Costi). Students were accompanied by Prof. Ishan Kossambe and Prof. Chetan Gaonkar.

Varun Beverages is one of the largest franchisee in the world (outside US) of carbonated soft drinks (“CSDs”) and non-carbonated beverages (“NCBs”) sold under trademarks owned by PepsiCo. It produces and distributes a wide range of CSDs, as well as a large selection of NCBs, including packaged drinking water. Students were shown the entire production line for filling of carbonated soft drinks. The entire process is automated. Students also saw blow molding process which is done for manufacturing of plastic bottles.

Chowgule & Co. Pvt. Ltd. (Mining Division – Costi) is engaged in exploration, mining and processing of iron ore. It has grown to be one among the top low-cost producers of iron ore in the country. The entire mining exploration process was explained to the students by the Geologist Mr. Kale. Maintenance head of the company explained how the maintenance of all the heavy machineries like wheel loaders, dumpers, track loader, excavators etc. is done. He thoroughly explained students how these heavy machineries work. Plant Incharge Mr. Kalangutkar showed students screening, washing and beneficiation plant.

The visit was organized by Prof. Ajit Salunke, Prof. Ishan Kossambe and Prof. Chetan Gaonkar. Overall it was a very enlightening and learning experience for the students of BE Mechanical.
