On 5th September 2024, the Council of Computer Department Engineering Students (C CODES) at Don Bosco College of Engineering organized an informative session on Financial Literacy & SIP. The guest speaker for the event, Mr. Anoop Dangui, currently a Senior Manager in Data Engineering at Cornerstone OnDemand, brought over 15 years of experience to the table, sharing valuable insights from both his professional and personal financial journey.

Mr. Dangui’s session aimed to provide a deeper understanding of financial management, especially for students at the start of their careers. He emphasized that financial literacy is a critical skill that can have a lasting impact on one’s future. He covered several important topics during the talk:

  1. Financial Literacy – He began by explaining the importance of being financially literate, stressing that knowledge of basic financial principles helps individuals make well-informed decisions and build a stable financial foundation for the future.
  • Inflation – Mr. Dangui used a simple graph to demonstrate how inflation affects purchasing power, pointing out that without proper financial planning, savings lose value over time. He discussed how inflation can impact long-term savings and emphasized the importance of investing in assets that grow faster than inflation.
  • Power of Compounding – One of the key highlights of the session was the power of compounding. Mr. Dangui explained how compound interest allows investments to grow exponentially over time. He shared examples and explained the formula, making it clear how starting early and reinvesting earnings can lead to substantial wealth accumulation.
  • Wealth Creation Formula – Moving forward, he presented a practical approach to wealth creation. Mr. Dangui broke down a simple, actionable formula: save a portion of income consistently, invest wisely, and allow time to do the rest. He stressed that wealth is built gradually and requires patience and discipline.
  • Stock Market – Mr. Dangui provided an overview of the stock market, explaining how it operates and describing common investment instruments. He highlighted both the potential rewards and the risks involved in stock market investments, encouraging students to approach it with a long-term mindset.
  • Investing Early – Mr. Dangui underscored the importance of starting investments as early as possible. He emphasized that starting early is crucial for maximizing returns, as it gives investments more time to grow and benefit from the power of compounding. He encouraged students to take small but consistent steps toward financial independence, even during their college years.

The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, where students asked questions related to personal finance, savings strategies, and investment opportunities. Mr. Dangui provided insightful responses, leaving the audience with practical advice on how to begin their financial journeys.
