International Purple Fest 2024 – A Journey of Empathy and Inclusion
The International Purple Fest 2024, held at Kala Academy, Panaji, Goa, from January 8 to January 13, 2024, was a remarkable event that brought together individuals from diverse backgrounds to celebrate and promote inclusivity. Our team of 51 volunteers from Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, was assigned to manage Purple Fun and Rain activities, including a cruise ride, fun sports, yoga sessions, and assisting delegates at INOX.
Our six days of volunteering at International Purple Fest were a journey filled with excitement, learning, and meaningful interactions. We actively participated in organizing and facilitating various activities, ensuring that participants had a memorable and inclusive experience. The diverse range of activities, from the serene yoga sessions to the adrenaline-pumping fun games, provided a unique platform for everyone to engage and connect.
One of the highlights of our volunteering experience was overseeing the cruise ride activity. Guiding participants, ensuring their safety, and witnessing the joy on their faces as they enjoyed the scenic beauty of Goa from the water was immensely gratifying. The cruise ride not only offered entertainment but also served as a platform for fostering a sense of community among the participants.
Managing the fun games segment was another exciting aspect of our volunteering duties. Coordinating games, ensuring fair play, and witnessing the spirit of sportsmanship among the participants added an element of camaraderie to the event. The fun sports activities not only brought out the competitive spirit but also highlighted the importance of teamwork and mutual respect.
The yoga sessions during Purple Fest provided a tranquil space for participants to relax and rejuvenate. As volunteers, we actively assisted in organizing the sessions, ensuring a peaceful and inclusive atmosphere. The experience taught us the importance of mindfulness, physical well-being, and the positive impact of such activities on individuals from diverse backgrounds.
A significant part of our responsibilities included assisting delegates at INOX during various events. This experience allowed us to interact with a diverse group of individuals, including speakers, performers, and attendees. It not only enhanced our organizational skills but also broadened our perspective on inclusivity and diversity in a professional setting. Throughout our volunteering journey, we gained valuable insights into empathy, the inclusion of people with different abilities, and the power of shared experiences. Interacting with participants from various walks of life highlighted the significance of creating spaces that celebrate diversity and foster a sense of belonging.
The International Purple Fest was not just an event; it was a transformative experience. Our role as volunteers allowed us to contribute to the success of the workshop while imbibing essential values of empathy and inclusivity. The memories created, lessons learned, and the bonds formed during this Fest will remain etched in our minds, serving as a reminder of the positive impact that collaborative efforts can have on building a more inclusive and compassionate society. The thoughtful provision of breakfast and food for the volunteers not only fuelled our physical energy but also symbolized the spirit of community and appreciation. This act of kindness highlighted the organizers’ commitment to creating an environment where everyone felt valued and supported, contributing to the overall success of this Fest .Moreover, we extend a heartfelt appreciation to Sir Harison Cota, Sir Raghu Dath Delga, and the coordinator at Purple Fest, Sir Siddesh Tikam, Sir Prakash Gaude, and Ma’am Durgashri for their unwavering support and guidance. Their leadership, encouragement, and dedication were instrumental in making this volunteering experience not only educational but also enriching on a personal level. The success of International Purple Fest Goa is a testament to their commitment to fostering an environment of inclusivity and community, and we are grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of this impactful event under their guidance.
