Lean Start-up &Minimum Viable Product/Business – Mentoring Session

Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda- Goa is one of the institutes to be selected for establishing MHRD – Institute Innovation Council (IIC). Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India has established MHRD’s Innovation Cell (MIC) (https://www.mic.gov.in/) to systematically foster the culture of Innovation amongst all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) pan India. The primary mandate of MIC is to encourage, inspire and nurture young students by supporting them to work with new ideas while they are in formative years

As part of the drive, a mentoring session on ‘Lean Start-up &Minimum Viable Product/Business – Mentoring Session’, was held to enlighten the students in this regard. The session was held on September 21, 2022 at 11.30 am in the Prototyping Lab of Don Bosco College of Engineering. The Resource person invited was Mr. Sudip Faldesai, Project Officer Goa State Innovation Council. The audience comprised of more than 50 students of Don Bosco College of Engineering. Also present was, Dr. Suraj Marathe, President – IIC DBCE and Associate Professor, Mechanical Department of Don Bosco College of Engineering.

Dr Suraj Marathe hosted the session by introducing DBCE – IIC and presented an overview of the various functions and activities carried out by it and how students can utilise these activities towards innovation and start-ups.

Mr. Sudip, the resource person of the session, was delighted to share his experience in this regard and said, “Lean start-up is an approach to building new ideas based on self-belief that entrepreneurs must test and iterate as they develop products”. He also went on to explain the five principles of lean start-ups. He also stressed on the fact that Lean Start-up provides a scientific approach to creating and managing start-ups and get a desired product to customers’ hands faster.

The event was very well received by all, and students had an opportunity to learn about Lean Start-up along with understanding the fact that Starting Lean is today’s best practice for innovators.
