One Day National Level Virtual Technical Event – THERMOFEST-2021
The Department of Mechanical Engineering of Don Bosco College of Engineering(DBCE), Fatorda, Goa in association with ISHRAE Goa Chapter organized a One Day National Level Virtual Technical Event THERMOFEST-2021 on November 13, 2021. Under this virtual technical event there were three main technical events like Virtual Technical Paper Presentation, Virtual Technical Poster Presentation and Virtual Technical Quiz. The event started off with a brief virtual inaugural ceremony at 9.30am. The inaugural ceremony was graced by the Principal – DBCE -Dr. Neena Panandikar who appreciated the efforts taken by the ISHRAE DBCE Student Council Members and the event coordinators for organizing the event. She thanked all the participants and the judges of the event for taking part in the event.
Director – Rev. Fr. Kinley D’Cruz highlighted the importance of such events mentioning that it will bring students out of stage fear and improve their communication skills by providing an opportunity to learn in detail about a core subject which is a part of curriculum and develop effective presentation skills.
President of ISHARE Goa Chapter Prof. Sunil Shetye spoke about value addition and added to the statements made by Rev. Fr. Kinley D’Cruz about being well versed with current / modern technologies. He also appreciated DBCE ISHARE student chapter for their active involvement in organizing the virtual technical event.
Prof. Ajit Salunke- Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering thanked ISHRAE Goa Chapter for their continuous support and encouragement in organizing the event. Mr. Rajay Naik, President, ISHRAE DBCE Student Chapter and student of final year Mechanical Engineering proposed the vote of thanks. The virtual inaugural ceremony was hosted by Mr. Bradely Rodrigues, student of final year Mechanical Engineering
The Virtual Technical event THERMOFEST- 2021 started off with the first Virtual Technical Paper Presentation event. The theme given for the virtual paper presentation was technical papers in the field of HVAC, Heat Transfer, Renewable Energy Sources, Alternate fuels, Cryogenics etc. Participants from different states actively presented their papers on different topics like Solar thermal Power Plants, Thermoacoustic Refrigeration, Vertical axis wind turbine design and Cooling Tower Design.
The next event was on virtual technical poster presentation and the participants from different colleges presented their posters on projects, research, and innovative ideas.
The judges for the virtual technical paper and poster presentation were Prof. Vinod Kotebavi, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Bangalore and Prof. Mayur Shetty. Both the judges were impressed by the active participation and the level of creativity shown by the participants.
The first prize for the virtual paper presentation event was bagged by Mr. Akash Pawar from Don Bosco College of Engineering and the second prize was bagged by Mr. Deepak Kumar Kushwaha from Government Engineering College, Bhavnagar.
For the virtual poster competition, the first prize was secured by Mr. Bharath. H. R from Maharaja Institute of Institution, Mysore and the second prize was bagged by Mr. Akash Pawar from Don Bosco College of Engineering.
In the afternoon session the last virtual technical quiz event based on thermal domain subjects was held. There were about 25 participants from different states who went through a tough qualifying round held through Google form and the top 5 (Five) participants were selected for the actual quiz round. In the actual quiz round, there were mainly 3 (Three) rounds of MCQ type, Image based and Problem solving. These rounds went on for more than an hour with a tough competition between the top 5 participants and finally arriving at the winners; Mr. Shikhare Akshay Prabhakar from Rajendra Mane College of Engineering achieving 1st prize and Mr. Jignesh Kumar Saroj from Government Engineering College Rajkot achieving 2nd prize. The winners of each of these events will be presented with a cash prize and winning certificate.
It was an amazing experience conducting the event virtually and meeting with new people and the efforts of the entire team had paid off. The event was successfully conducted by the event coordinators Prof. Sharad Shanbhag, Prof. Pringle Alfanso and the ISHRAE Student Council Members and were supported and guided by Prof. Ajit Salunke, HOD Mechanical and Prof. Tanay Rege, Student Chair ISHRAE Goa Chapter.
