One Day Workshop on “ Ergonomics At Workplace” at Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda
The Department of Mechanical Engineering of Don Bosco College of Engineering organized a one day workshop on “Ergonomics at Workplace” for Industry, Academicians and Third Year students of Mechanical Engineering on 25th August 2018. In all 22 industry professionals, 7 Academicians and 21 students participated in the workshop. The Chief Guest for the inaugural function was Dr. Venkatesh Nevagi, Director, Padma Spine and Pain Center, Margao, Goa
At the inaugural Dr. Neena Panandikar, Principal gave a brief overview of the college and highlighted it’s achievements. .She also emphasized on the importance of following ergonomic principles in the workplace. Rev Fr. Kinley D’Cruz, Director said that there had been a tectonic shift in the attitude of the industry towards industrial safety and focus has moved from the machine to the person. The industry has realized that safety is connected to productivity and ergonomics is one of its key features. He pointed out that in Foreign Countries like Australia knowledge of Safety precautions and ergonomics is given prime importance in selecting a Candidate for jobs in Industry.
Dr. Venkatesh Nevagi, Director, Padma Spine and Pain Center, Margao, Goa delivered the keynote session on “Ergonomics At Workplace: A Medical Perspective”. He covered the basics of ergonomics, the medical conditions that can be developed by not following ergonomic protocols, types of injuries and prevention and causes and management of backpain at workplace. The session ended with a question and answer session with the participants. The next session was delivered by Dr. Vivek Vajaratkar, Assistant Professor in Occupational Therapy at Goa Medical College, Bambolim. He covered the areas of Ergonomic principles, Musco Skeletal Disorders (MSD), evaluating the workplace and ergonomic solutions. He also covered the basics of Work Study. Time study and Method study. The afternoon session commenced with the basics of Biomechanics, Man machine systems, Machine Pacing and worker rehabilitation. The participants were taught basic exercises which can be performed at the workplace. The last session involved a group activity wherein the participants had to identify the various injury prone activities they encounter at the workplace and ergonomic solutions were provided for the same. The Workshop ended with the valedictory function wherein Prof. Ajit Salunke, HOD, Department of Mechanical Engineering thanked the participants for attending the workshop and informed them about the future workshops planned by the Department. The participants were given a opportunity to give their feedback about the workshop. The valedictory concluded with the distribution of certificates.
