Orientation Program for Students of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering Department, Don Bosco College Of Engineering

An orientation programme was organized for Second Year (SE) students of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (ETC) Department on September 12, 2020 through the Google meet platform. The orientation was conducted with the intention of welcoming the students to the ETC Department and introducing them to the various technical and non-technical activities carried out by the department.

The orientation programme commenced at 9:40 a.m. The entire class was present for the orientation programme. The introductory address was given by the Class Teacher, Prof.Trima P. Fernandes e Fizardo. She introduced the students to the various courses in their curriculum. The students were informed about the examination as well as the importance of attendance for the online classes.

Prof. Mohini Naik gave a brief overview on Student Satellite Club-Parikrama,Antenna Research Group and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Outreach Programme. She informed students that under Parikrama,students are developing a ground station for the satellite communication and also going to design and fabricate  the satellites.She enlightened the students about the workshop for designing of antennas under Antenna Research Group. She encouraged the students to register for various courses under Indian Institute of Remote Sensing-ISRO Outreach Programme

Prof. Flavia Leitao introduced e-Yantra lab to the students which is a project hosted by IIT Bombay to spread education in Embedded Systems and Robotics in colleges across India and sponsored by MHRD. She gave an insight to the workshops and various initiatives under e-Yantra organised by IITB. She also focused on Task Based Training which believes in “Learning by Doing” and urged students to be a part of e-Yantra Robotics Club setup by the department.

Prof. Deron Rodrigues briefed on Don Bosco Electronics and Telecommunication Society (DBEATS), which is an Electronics and Telecommunication student association.He introduced the DBEATS committee members and spoke about the various technical activities like Technova Fest,Bose Shanon Shockley (BSS) paper presentation,Workshops and Expert talks under the DBEATS banner.

This was followed by an overview of IETE (Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by Dr. Shreyas Simu. He explained the motto of IETE that is “Let’s all work together”.He enlightened the students about the objectives,benefits of IETE and activities conducted under it. He also gave insights to the upcoming events of IETE.

Prof. D.S.Vidhya gave a brief session on accreditation and NPTEL courses. She encouraged the students to enrol themselves for the NPTEL courses. She also informed the students about the various course credits.

Prof. Yeshudas Muttu introduced the students to IEEE student branch. He elaborated the various activities under the IEEE student branch like seminars, outreach programs, workshops, webinars and educational tours.The existing student committee members of IEEE shared their experiences with the second year students.

The orientation programme ended at 12:50 p.m.
