Report on WEBCHAT
On July 11, 2020, The Mechanical Department of Don Bosco College of Engineering organized a Webinar on “Aspects & Prospects of Design for Mechanical Engineers”. The event was hosted through G-SUITE for the Third and Final Year students of Mechanical Engineering. The Industry experts for the event were Mr. Rupesh Padwalkar (Power Systems, COE-LEAD Tata Technologies Ltd, Hinjewadi Pune India) and Mr. Rajesh Parab (Lead- Geartrain, Punch Powertrain Eindhoven Netherlands).
The session commenced with the introduction of the topic and presenters roadmap to guide students through the success and failure journeys of the speakers. Mr. Rupesh started the session with 7S Model of Organization to give students an insight of Industry working and Hierarchy to support Product Design. Mr. Rajesh then continued on the Design philosophies implemented in Industry such as V-Model, House of Quality Model, Double Diamond Design process. Mr. Rajesh with his wide exposure in Mechanical Industry in India and abroad emphasized the importance of small tools like Brainstorming for the initial phases of Design.
All focus of the session was to set and guide a career path for students. Both the speakers listed down and elaborated with practical experiences the different Technical and Interpersonal skill sets required for fresher’s to excel in the field of Engineering. Mr. Rupesh later ended up the session with a concluding remark to balance IQ and EQ for a successful career growth.
The Web chat was initiated and hosted by Prof. Sachin Turi considering suggestions from students and a need to identify a skill gap to bridge Industry- Academia by HOD-Mechanical Prof. Ajit Salunke. The event was coordinated by Prof. Sanjeel Naik and Prof. Achintya Kambli. The online session extended for 1.5 hours with an active participation of 60 students.
