Seminar on “Introduction to FOSS”

Google Developers Group, Goa organised a workshop on “Introduction to FOSS”. It was conducted on 25^th January 2018, for the Computer Engineering students at Don Bosco College of Engineering. Around 25 students attended the workshop. There was a special guest, Rosário Pereira Fernandes, Co-organiser at Google Developers Group, Maputo, Mozambique. The speaker for the workshop was Mr. Wendham Gray, Co-founder of Chowgule FOSS Club. The faculty coordinator was Prof. Christina Barretto.

The workshop started with what is Linux, differences between FOSS and open source software, working of Linux OS work and its various distributions. The students were also shown how to create a bootable pen drive in order to use Xubuntu, a flavour of Linux. There was a hands-on session for the students to show the interface of the Xubuntu operating system, various commands to avail the many features of the operating system.
