Seminar report on “Smart Phone Addiction: Physical, Social and Psychological Issues”
Nirmala Institute of Education organised a one day State Level Seminar on “Smart Phone Addiction: Physical, Social and Psychological Issues” on February 18, 2020, for which the Counsellor – Don Bosco College Of Engineering- Mrs. Maya Lin Noronha, was deputed.
The Chief Guest of this function, IPS- Pankaj Kumar Singh in his address said that the issue of phone addiction is a very serious one and many youth are the innocent victims of this issue. He cited very interesting real life incidences of youth being abused and duped with their phones. Mr. Kumar Singh suggested that there are several ways we can stop youth from being addicted to their phones such as allotting specific time to children for phone usage, monitoring what the phone is used for, and many more.
There were several paper presentations on various topics regarding phone addiction such as “Impact of Smartphones over Society” How Smart Are We with Our Smart Phones” The Fear of Missing out (FOMO) to name a few.
The afternoon session had a panel discussion comprising of Dr. Ubaldina Noronha, Dr. Arvind Haldankar and Mr. Rajeev Narvekar who also spoke on various issues regarding Smart Phone Addiction. There were a lot of interesting give and take suggestions exchanged between both the audience and the panellists.
The seminar ended with a brief observation and conclusion delivered by renowned Psychiatrist and Principal of the Home Science College, Dr . Mahesh Pai.
Overall, the seminar was interesting and enriching and all the participants took home a lot of added information, fortified to put to use.
