The C-CODES Student council organized a field trip for the T.E. Computer Engineering students on 23rd of September 2024, to Cyber Forensic Laboratory, Cyber Crime Police Station, Ribandar and the Krishnadas Shama State Central Library in Patto, Panaji. A total of 65 students were accompanied by Prof. Mithil Parab and Prof. Viosha Cruz. The aim of the visit was to provide students with practical insights into the functioning of cybercrime investigations and to foster a deeper appreciation for the resources and services available at the State Central Library.

The first stop was the Cyber Forensic Laboratory and Cyber Crime Police Station, Ribandar, where students were greeted by police officers specializing in handling cybercrime cases. The Police Inspector, Mr. Vijayanand Pawar, explained the various types of cybercrime they deal with, including hacking, identity theft, online fraud, and cyber harassment. Students were introduced to the tools and technologies used by the police to trace digital footprints, investigate online criminal activities, and maintain cyber security. They also learned about the legal aspects of cybercrime, including laws and regulations like the Information Technology Act, 2000, and how these laws are enforced.

The officers emphasized the importance of cyber security awareness and urged students to be vigilant while using the internet, particularly regarding the protection of personal data. The session was highly interactive, with students asking questions about real-life cases and the career opportunities available in cybercrime investigation.

Post Lunch, the group proceeded to the Krishnadas Shama State Central Library. The library, known for its vast collection of books and digital resources, was an excellent place for students to explore the role of libraries in modern education and research. Students were given a tour of the library’s facilities, including the reference section, digital library section, and reading rooms. The library staff demonstrated how to access various digital resources such as e-books, journals, and databases. They also highlighted the importance of libraries in supporting academic growth and fostering a culture of lifelong learning. The visit concluded with students being encouraged to utilize the library’s resources for research and academic projects, especially in fields like technology and engineering. Refreshments were provided to the students at the beginning and end of the journey. The coordinator for the field trip was Prof. Manisha Faldessai.
