Two Weeks Workshop on Solidworks and Maintainance Engineering
A Two weeks workshop on “Solid Works and Maintenance Engineering” was organized by Mechanical Engineering Department of Don Bosco College of Engineering from 4th to 15th July 2016 for third year Mechanical Engineering students. During the 1st week of the workshop on solid works learnt the basics of 3-D modeling. The models of Crane hook, Screw jack etc. were drawn using Solidworks. The resource persons were Prof. Avil D’sa, Prof., Sanjeel Naik and Prof. Shreeshail Yalagatti.
During the 2nd week of the workshop on Maintenance Engineering from 11th to 15th July, eminent industry professionls delivered sessions on maintenance engineering. Around 80 students from DBCE, PCCE and Agnel Polytechnic attended the workshop. The workshop began with a brief introduction on maintenance engineering by Prof. Suraj Marathe, Workshop Superindentant stressed upon the importance and objectives of maintenance and described the various types of maintenance. The session was then followed by a talk on “Maintenance of Pumps” by Mr. Abhay Keny, Pproprietor, Shanta Pumps. Later a session on “Maintenance of Industrial Motors” was delivered by Mr. Gerard D’Mello, Chairman, IEI Goa State centre.
On the second day highlights Prof. Sharad Shanbhag, DBCE delivered a talk on “Diesel Engine Emission and Control”. A session on “Talk on Competetive & Entrance Exams” was conducted by Mr. Darius Bareto, Research Scholar, IIT Delhi who guided the students on how to face competitive exams and gave tips on career guidance. Mr. Subhash Bandodkar, Consultant in NDT, Welding and Corrosion delivered a session on “Non Destructive Testing” and explained the various methods of NDT. On the 3rd day students got to learn about “Introduction to Vibration, Alignment and Balancing, Mounting and dis-mounting of Bearings” by Mr. Suruyakant Gawde, certified Vibration Monitoring Analyst Level –III.
On the 4th day Prof Suraj Marathe spoke on “Maintenance in Industry” followed by a session on “Maintenance in Shipping Industry ” by Mr. Ajay Tambvekar, Dy. Director, IMS Goa. Mr. Sankalp Dessai, 4th Engineer, Wilhelmsen Ship Management also spoke about “Maintenance in Shipping Industry” Mr. P.N.Reddy, Manager, Maintenance, Finolex delivered a talk on “Maintenance in Wire Industry”.On the last day Dr. Roshini Easow, Retired Professor, Sardear Patel College of Engineering and Mr. Nobel Dias, Associate Manager, maintenance, Vedanta delivered sessions on “Maintenace of HVAC” and “Maintenace of Heavy Machinery” The last session on “Total Productive Maintenace” was engaged by Mr. Prashant Naik, Manager, Titan Time Products Ltd. Practical sessions on maintenance were conducted under the guidance of Prof Suraj Marathe & Mr. Suryakant Gawde. Mr. Joyston Menzes assisted the students.
For the valedictory function Mr. Prashant Naik was the chief guest and other dignitaries present were Rev. Fr. Avil Rodrigues, Dr. Neena Panandikar, Principal, Prof. Ajit Salunke, HOD-Mechanical and Prof. Suraj Marathe. Prof. Ajit Salunke stressed upon the importance of maintenance in the industry and said that such courses should be made mandatory by the AICTE for the overall development of the students. Dr. Neena Panandikar congratulated the HOD and the workshop coordinators and said that such workshops will not only boost the knowledge of the students but also helps bridge the gap between the Industry and the Institute. Mr. Prashant Naik addressed the students and stressed upon the need to keep updated with the latest developements in the Industry. He congratulated the mechanical department for organizing such workshops regularly and thanked the management. The coordinators of the workshops were Prof. Avil D’Sa and Prof. Chetan Gaonkar respectively. Prof. Sharad Shanbhag compered the event and Prof. Sanjeel Naik gave the vote of thanks.
