Workshop on Introduction to Microcontrollers using ESP8266 NodeMCU
The Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering Department along with DBEATS Council organized a workshop on Introduction to Microcontrollers using ESP8266 NodeMCU for the students of FE ETC on 27th and 28th September, 2019. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Rohit Sardessai and Mr. Siddhesh Nayak, who are both Alumni students of Don Bosco College of Engineering.
This workshop aimed to demystify the Arduino microcontroller through hands-on work in the lab writing simple codes and testing them. It brought the students over the beginner’s threshold to a basic understanding of the use, terminology, and potential of the Arduino.
On the first day, the students were introduced to microcontrollers and to Arduino IDE. Thereafter, the students were briefed about some of the advantages it offers for teachers, students, and interested amateurs over other systems. The session held thereafter covered Introduction to ESP 8266 and it’s Pinout. It also included an understanding of digital and analog inputs and outputs.
The Post lunch hands-on session covered writing simple Arduino programs for LED Blinking and Interfacing switches with pull up and pull down resistors.
On the second day, the topics covered were Pulse Width Modulation concepts and Programming, Analog to digital converters, interfacing potentiometers. Various sensors such as Light Dependent Resistor, DHT11-temperature and humidity sensor and ultrasonic range sensors were explained, followed by the interfacing of each of these with ESP8266.
Thirty students attended the workshop and the feedback received was extremely positive. The workshop was coordinated by DBEATS Faculty Coordinators.
