2-Days National Workshop on “Industry 4.0 and Smart Manufacturing – Transforming Future Factories”

The Institution of Engineers (India), Goa State Centre, in association with Don Bosco College of Engineering (DBCE), Fatorda, and Turbocam India Pvt. Ltd., organized a two-day national workshop on “Industry 4.0 & Smart Manufacturing – Transforming Future Factories” on 16th and 17th October 2025 at the DBCE campus and the Turbocam plant, Margao Industrial Estate. The workshop witnessed active participation from industry professionals representing Goa Shipyard Ltd., Sanofi Healthcare India Pvt. Ltd., and Danlaw Technologies India Ltd., along with academicians from NIT Goa, PCCE, IMS, AITD, and DBCE, and DBCE students pursuing Honours in Smart Manufacturing.
The event was inaugurated by Mr. Sanjay Amonkar, Director General, Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In his inaugural address, Mr. Amonkar emphasized that Industry 4.0 is not merely a technological upgrade but a holistic transformation that can propel India towards global leadership, while also cautioning against the excessive use of AI in view of India’s population and employment sustainability. Fr. Ralin De Souza (Rector, Don Bosco Fatorda), Fr. Wilfred Fernandes (Director, DBCE), Dr. Neena Panandikar (Principal, DBCE), Er. Anwar Khan (President, IEI Goa State Centre), and Mr. Roger Gomes (Director, Turbocam) also graced the occasion and addressed the gathering. Dr. Suraj Marathe, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department and Convenor of the workshop, delivered the welcome address and set the context for the event, while Dr. Ajit Salunke (Coordinator) introduced the workshop theme. Er. Siddant Dubashi (Secretary, IEI Goa State Centre) proposed the vote of thanks, and Er. Benedicto Andrade (Convener) compered the inaugural function. Prof. Sharad Shanbhag served as the Co-coordinator of the workshop. Mr. Abhishek Dais was awarded the “Distinguished Student Member” of the IEI DBCE chapter for the year 2025-26.

The topics included Smart Technologies for Industry 4.0, Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) Technology for additive manufacturing, Role of Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning in optimizing industry processes, Data flow cycle in Industry 4.0, Virtual & Augmented Reality, AI in condition monitoring for predictive maintenance, and applications of Robotics & Computer Vision in smart manufacturing. A half-day, hands-on session was conducted at Turbocam India’s plant in the Margao Industrial Estate, where participants observed the real-time implementation of Industry 4.0 practices and witnessed a robotic cell in full operation, gaining practical insights into how smart manufacturing processes are deployed in actual industrial settings.
