Report on one day workshop on “Blockchain Technology”
The Department of Computer Engineering organised a one day workshop on Blockchain Technology on August 12, 2023. The session was attended by 35 faculty members and Industry personnel. The speaker for the Session was Mr. Anil Dongre, Principal Architect and Mr. Siddhesh Naik, Software Architect at Persistent Systems Ltd. The coordinators for the workshop were Dr. Amrita Naik and Prof. Sweta Morajkar.
The participants were from different educational institutions such as National Institute of technology –Goa, Goa Engg. College-Farmagudi, Govt. Government college of Arts, Science and Commerce, Khandola, Marcela ,Bhatikar High School, Government Polytechnic Bicholim. The workshop was also attended by industry personnel from Infipre IT service (OPC) Pvt Ltd- Sanquelim, Creative Capsule -Verna, Network Intelligence- Mumbai, RCS Tech LLP-Bangalore.
The session began with an introduction to Blockchain wherein the speakers spoke about the need for a Blockchain Technology in recent times. The speakers explained on how blockchain can store, share and verify records of all transactions or digital events among participants placed at distributed location. Participants were introduced with two use cases of blockchain namely Bitcoin and Ethereum. In the morning session, Mr. Siddhesh Naik and Mr. Anil Dongre explained the Bitcoin architecture which includes bitcoin node, network formation, wallets, transaction, and transaction processing. The speakers visually demonstrated the use of private key and public key with the help of a browser tool developed by Anders Brownworth. The participants were familiarised with consensus algorithm namely Proof of Work (PoW) and Proof of Stake (PoS).
In the afternoon session, the speakers demonstrated the creation and deployment of smart contracts using Ethereum blockchain network. The participants underwent a hands-on session wherein they created Ethereum address linked to a wallet called Metamask. Participants also deployed smart contract on Ethereum’s Sepolia Testnet using Remix. The workshop ended with the vote of thanks proposed by the workshop coordinator, Dr.Amrita Naik.
