Mix Design Workshop

The Civil Engineering Department of our college (DBCE) in association with Infra.Market conducted a one-day workshop on ‘Mix Design’ for PWD Engineers on the 31st May 2024, in the college premises. The workshop was organized as part of the MoU signed between the Civil Engineering department and the Public Works Department, Government of Goa.

The inaugural commenced with lighting of the lamp. Director Fr. Kinley D’Cruz welcomed the gathering to the workshop and focused on the need to stay abreast with the latest developments in the industry. The chief guest for the inaugural, Er. Santosh Mhapne, Chief Engineer, PWD, in his address stressed on the need to be disciplined in engineering practices and adhering to code provisions. The guest of honor, Dr. Raghavendra Y.B., Zonal head of Technical Infra.Market, encouraged the participants to actively participate in the workshop and share their experience, for the workshop to be fruitful.  Prof. Jeffrey Valadares proposed the vote of thanks, while motivating the audience to push their boundaries and embrace new knowledge.

The event was co-ordinated by Prof. Satyesh Kakodkar and the resource speakers were Asst. Prof. Shruti Jambhale and Asst. Prof. Nadya Baracho.

Assistant Professor Shruti delivered a lecture on the significance of mix design, its implication on the activities during site processes and the latest code provisions for mix design.

In her presentation, Assistant Professor Nadya Baracho explained the interpretation of the code provisions and elucidated through an example. She emphasized on the use of plascticizers and superplasticizers in concrete to improve its workability, strength and durability.

A practical session was conducted in the afternoon wherein the participants were shown two mix designs viz. one with superplasticizer and one without superplasticizer. The practical session was followed by a question-and-answer session.

The workshop was concluded by presenting certificates to the participants.
