Awareness Talk on “Issue Of Human Trafficking”

The Department of Science and Humanities in association with Women Police Station and Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) organized an awareness talk for the students of First Year Engineering, commemorating the World Day against Trafficking in Persons, on 31st July 2024. The speakers for the were Ms. Enakshi Ganguly, Co-Founder HAQ – Centre for Child Rights, Hon. Professor, National Law University, Odisha and Mr. Emidio Pinho, Advocate, SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now). The event aimed to raise awareness among students about the complexities and impact of human trafficking, both globally and locally.

The event began with the lighting of the lamp followed by presenting flowers as a token of gratitude to dignitaries by Police staff. Thereafter, the speakers began with a comprehensive overview of human trafficking, detailing its various forms, including forced labor, sexual exploitation, child marriage, adoption fraud and involvement in organized begging or criminal activities.

The talk explored the underlying causes of human trafficking such as poverty, lack of education, social inequality, migration, armed conflict and weak law enforcement. They discussed the profound impact of trafficking on victims such as physical, emotional and psychological trauma. Personal stories and case studies were shared to illustrate the real-life consequences of trafficking. Finally, various prevention initiatives were addressed, including community education and awareness campaigns as well as support services such as counselling, legal aid and rehabilitation programs aimed at combating human trafficking.

The event was concluded by extending gratitude to the Speakers and acknowledging the hard work and commitment of the Women Police Station and Anti-human Trafficking Unit for meticulous planning and organization of the event.
