Don Bosco College of Engineering Celebrates India’s 78th Independence Day

Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda celebrated India’s 78th Independence Day in the college premises on 15th August 2024, at 8:30 a.m. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. Naval Narayan Naik, Director, Nanu Group of Industries. Mr. Naik was accompanied by dignitaries: Director, Reverend Father Kinley D’cruz; Administrator, Reverend Father Leo Pereira; Principal, Dr. Neena Panandikar and Registrar, Dr. Kala Nayak.

The programme began with hoisting of the National Flag followed by the National Anthem, with orders given by Physical Education and Sports Director, Mr Clifford Britto. This was followed by welcoming the Chief Guest with a bouquet of flowers.

Dr Neena Panandikar, in the welcome address reminded us of the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters to secure our freedom and urged us to work together towards prosperity, peace and harmony. Fr Kinley highlighted the significance of the day and said “This day represents the end of struggle and the beginning of a new chapter as a democratic republic.” He emphasized the need for us to shoulder the responsibility of preserving and building upon the legacy of our forefathers by saying, “Don’t see what your country can do for you, but see what you can do for your country.”

Patriotism set the stage as the First year students of DBCE sang the hymn “The world stands in need of liberation.” This was followed by introduction of the chief guest by Mr Shrinivas Inamdar who underlined his achievements in different fields. The Chief Guest in his addressal underlined the importance of engineering in transforming India into a self-reliant and technologically advanced nation.

Towards the end, a token of appreciation was presented to Mr Naval Naik by Reverend Father Kinley D’cruz, and the Vote of Thanks was delivered by Ms Akanksha Nagvenkar who extended sincere gratitude to the dignitaries, the presenters and the performers of the day.
