Hands-on Workshop on “GenAI in Action: Explore, Create & Innovate”

The Department of Computer Engineering in association with C-CODES computer students association organized a hands-on workshop on GenAI in action: Explore, Create & Innovate. The workshop was conducted on 31st August 2024, for computer engineering students and faculty. The resource person for the workshop was Mr. Alston Dias, Lead Software Engineer, Persistent Systems Private Ltd.

Mr. Alston Dias delivered an insightful overview of the rapidly evolving world of Generative AI (GenAI), highlighting advanced tools like Gemini, ChatGPT, and Copilot. He demonstrated how these AI systems can automate tasks, generate creative content, boost productivity, and even assist with coding. In addition to showcasing AI tools tailored for various tasks, including research, he also shared how GenAI is being utilized within companies to streamline workflows and drive innovation. The workshop focused on practical applications, empowering participants to effectively integrate AI into their professional activities.

A particularly engaging segment of the workshop was when Mr. Dias demonstrated how GenAI can effortlessly create professional presentations and spreadsheets. He guided participants through the process of using AI tools like ChatGPT and Copilot to generate PowerPoint slides and Excel sheets, with participants actively creating their own presentations and working on spreadsheets in real-time. By the end of the session, participants gained valuable insights into the transformative power of GenAI, understanding how it can not only optimize routine tasks but also inspire creativity and foster innovation in their respective fields. The workshop was highly interactive and hands-on, with students actively engaging and asking numerous questions, which the speaker addressed in detail. The event was coordinated by Prof. Manisha Fal Dessai and Prof. Amey Kerkar, alongside C-Codes Faculty Co-ordinator, Prof. Merwyn D’souza.
