Institute of Shipbuilding and Technology Students Visit DBCE

The Department of Mechanical Engineering of Don Bosco College of Engineering conducted a half-day workshop on “Introduction to CNC” for the third-year Mechanical Engineering students of Institute of Shipbuilding and Technology (ISBT), Vasco on 12^th March 2025. Organized by Mr. Sachin Turi and Dr. Suraj Marathe, the workshop included hands-on training on MasterCAM software for NC code generation, complemented by live machining demonstrations at the CNC Milling and Turning Centres.

The visit commenced with an introduction to the Mechanical Department by Dr. Suraj Marathe, Head of the Mechanical Department at DBCE. He highlighted the extensive job opportunities available for Mechanical Engineers in the industry and emphasized the importance of acquiring skills in the latest machining technologies, such as CNC, for manufacturing.

Mr. Sachin Turi and Mr. Aniket Naik engaged students on Mastercam, a NC code generation software. The students undertook the machining of a simple turning part, beginning with its process plan and progressing to cutter path simulation for final validation.

Mr. Gaurish Samant introduced the students to the CNC Milling and Turning Centre at the CNC lab. He explained the various components of the CNC machine, its functionality, and the axis systems. The session concluded with Mr. Johnson Vaz demonstrating the machining of a turning job on the CNC Turning Centre.

The students were accompanied by faculty members Mr. Pramit Naik Dalal, Mr. Pranesh Sawaikar, and Mr. Dasharatrao Tari from ISBT. Fr. Kinley D’Cruz, Director of DBCE, along with Dr. Neena Panandikar, Principal of DBCE, engaged with the students and extended their best wishes for their future careers.
