Workshop on “Basics of MS Excel: Formulas and Functions”

The Department of Mechanical Engineering conducted a half-day workshop on “Basics of MS Excel: Formulas and Functions” for final-year Mechanical Engineering students at DBCE. The session was led by alumni Mr. Rollan Fernandes and Mr. Satchit Fal Desai, currently placed at Eurostampa India Pvt Ltd. The workshop was coordinated by Mr. Sachin Turi, TPC-Mechanical, and Dr. Chetan Gaonkar, Alumni Coordinator-Mechanical. A total of 36 final-year Mechanical Engineering students participated in the session, gaining valuable insights into Excel functionalities and applications.
The training session provided a comprehensive overview of essential Excel functionalities, covering spreadsheet creation, formatting, and a diverse range of formulas for calculations. Participants explored fundamental functions, as well as advanced formulas for conditional calculations, and complex computations. The session also introduced methods for data counting and logical functions. Additionally, participants were introduced to key statistical functions for data analysis, including AVERAGE, MEDIAN, MODE, MAX, MIN, STDEV.S, and VAR.S. By the end of the session, attendees were equipped with the fundamental skills necessary to effectively leverage Excel for data management and reporting in their daily tasks.
Students had the opportunity to explore the vast potential of the software in data analysis. The alumnus was later honored by Dr. Suraj Marathe, Head of the Mechanical Department, in recognition of their valuable contributions to student skill development and the advancement of the department. The workshop was attended by faculty members, Mr. Gaurish Samant and Mr. Tanay Rege.
