Site Visit to Don Bosco College, Panjim

A field visit was conducted for students of Second year Masters students of Civil Engineering on 14th August 2025 at Don Bosco College Panjim to gain practical exposure to an ongoing construction project and understand the application of civil engineering concepts beyond classroom. The students were accompanied by Prof Satyesh Kakodar, Prof Starina Dias and Prof. Vanessa Fernandes. The students reached the site at 10:00AM. Fr. Kinley D’cruz welcomed the students and faculty, before giving a presentation about the extension of the existing Don bosco college site to the students and faculty. Fr mentioned that a four storey educational building is in progress, with the total cost of the project being Rs 18 crores. After the presentation the students were taken to the under-construction site of Don Bosco College. The engineer explained about the details of the site. The consulting Civil Engineer for the project was Mr Olavo Carvalo. M30 concrete grade was used. Steel grade used was FE 550D (TATA/SAIL/JSW/VIZAG).The students saw the construction of a water tank and a drainage system. The project was in the stage of formwork removal of columns and beam support. The field visit concluded at 12:00pm. The Site visit helped students to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical applications. The students could develop a better understanding of the structural works and site challenges.
