The Institution–Industry Cell (IIC) and the Mechanical Engineering Department of Don Bosco College of Engineering commemorated Engineers’ Day on September 15, 2025. The occasion featured insightful sessions by two industry experts, providing students with a valuable integration of theoretical knowledge and practical industrial applications.

The first session was delivered by Mr. Elias Vaz, General Manager and Head of Commercial and Logistics at Paradeep Phosphates Ltd., Goa Unit. Through his talk, titled “Creative Thinking: Case Study of a Process Industry,” Mr. Vaz demonstrated how core engineering principles such as tribology (the study of friction, wear, and lubrication), electromagnetic discharge, and bending moment diagrams are applied innovatively to address complex challenges in a large-scale process industry. Drawing from a specific case study at Paradeep Phosphates Ltd., he emphasized the importance of creativity in optimizing processes and resolving operational issues.

The second session was delivered by Mr. Siddesh Samant, Head of Project Management at Syntegon Technology India Pvt. Ltd., who spoke on “Project Management in Large-Scale Complex Projects.”  Mr. Samant shared insights from managing a landmark project in the Algerian Sahara Desert during his tenure with L&T. He provided an in-depth perspective on the challenges and intricacies of executing large-scale projects in the oil and gas sector, supported by case studies. He further introduced the concept of modularization in project management, highlighting how dividing massive projects into smaller, manageable modules can significantly improve efficiency, coordination, and control.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Ajit Salunke and Mr. Sanjeel Naik.
