Two-Day Integrative Design Approach on Energy Conservation and Sustainable Building Code

A two-day workshop on the Integrative Design Approach on Energy Conservation and Sustainable Building Code (ECSBC) was organized by the State Designated Agency, Electricity Department, in collaboration with the local self-government. The event was held at Goa College of Engineering, Farmagudi, and aimed to promote awareness and practical understanding of sustainable building design and energy efficiency.
The workshop was attended by Prof. Starina Dias and Prof. Vanessa Fernandes, along with M.E. students and third-year Civil Engineering students of Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda.
The technical sessions were led by industry experts Mr. J. K. Vyas and Mr. Gaurav Shorey, both ECBC Master Trainers. Mr. Vyas conducted a session introducing ECSBC–C and ECSBC–R, as well as building physics, emphasizing the principles of energy conservation in construction design.
Mr. Shorey delivered a detailed session on the importance of energy simulation and provided an introduction to EQuest software, covering AutoCAD zoning, shell preparation, and thermal zoning. He, along with Mr. Vyas, guided participants through the process of building model preparation, input parameters for internal loads, and the design of water-side and air-side HVAC systems.
Participants also learned about calculating solar PV requirements as per project specifications. The workshop concluded with discussions on simulation results, followed by the distribution of participation certificates.
The session proved to be an enriching experience, equipping students with valuable knowledge on sustainable design strategies and practical applications of energy conservation in modern construction.
