Site Visit to Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Panjim

The M.E. Civil Engineering students of Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, visited the construction site of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School at Panjim on 22 October 2025 as part of their academic field visit. The students were accompanied by Prof. Vanessa Fernandes.
At the time of the visit, the preparation work for the first-floor slab of the new building was in progress. Reinforcement work had been completed, additional shuttering was being placed, and electrical conduits were laid in position. The students closely observed the sequence of operations preceding concreting and gained practical insight into how structural and service works are coordinated on-site.
Reinforcement bars ranging from 8 mm to 32 mm in diameter were being used in accordance with the structural design specifications. The placement and tying of the reinforcement were consistent with standard construction practices and safety measures. The site engineers also explained the RCC structural drawings and architectural plans, helping students understand how design details are translated into on-site execution and how coordination is maintained between architectural and structural teams during construction.
The visit provided valuable exposure to reinforced concrete construction techniques, formwork installation, site supervision, and safety protocols followed during execution. Observing the real-time construction process helped students appreciate the importance of planning, precision, and teamwork in project implementation.
Overall, the field visit to Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Panjim, proved to be an informative and enriching experience that enhanced the students’ understanding of both the technical and practical aspects of building construction, effectively bridging the gap between theoretical learning and real-world application in civil engineering.
