Historical and Cultural Significance of Opinion Poll

Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda Goa organized a talk on “Historical and Cultural Significance of Opinion Poll” on the occasion of Asmitai Dis on 16 January 2026. The event was held at the college campus and witnessed the presence of faculty members and staff.

The resource person for the talk was Dr. Hanumant C. Chopdekar, Associate Professor and Vice-Dean (Academics), Goa University. Dr. Chopdekar delivered an insightful and well-structured presentation highlighting the historical background of the Opinion Poll, its socio-political relevance, and its lasting cultural impact on Goan identity. He elaborated on the circumstances leading to the Opinion Poll, its democratic significance, and how it continues to shape Goa’s collective consciousness and cultural pride.

The speaker emphasized the importance of understanding historical events not merely as past occurrences but as living influences that define regional identity and democratic values. The session encouraged critical reflection on Goa’s unique historical journey and the role of informed civic participation.



The event was coordinated by Assistant Professors, Mr. Kevin Anthony Pereira and Mrs. Shubha K. S. Velingkar, whose efforts ensured the smooth organization and successful conduct of the programme.

The talk was well received by the attendees and proved to be both informative and thought-provoking. It contributed meaningfully to the academic and cultural enrichment of the participants and aligned well with the objectives of Asmitai Dis, which aims to promote awareness and appreciation of Goan heritage and identity.
