E-Cell & ACM Chapter of DBCE visits IISC & McLaren Strategic Solutions (MSS) in Bengaluru

The Entrepreneurship Cell, in association with ACM (Association for Computing Machinery), organized an educational visit to the Indian Institute of Science & McLaren Strategic Solutions (MSS), Bengaluru from 22nd January to 26th January 2026. The objective of the visit was to provide students with exposure to advanced research infrastructure, high performance computing systems, and innovation driven incubation initiatives. The experience helped bridge academic learning with real world applications in science and technology.
The first venue of the visit was the Supercomputer Education and Research Centre. Students got an opportunity to witness the supercomputer PARAM Pravega. The session included an introduction to high performance clusters and their role in solving complex computational problems. The Roddam Narasimha Cluster was also discussed as an important computational facility supporting research activities.
An informative technical session was conducted where high performance clusters were explained in detail. Mr. Shivprasad elaborated on how a data centre works, including its technical architecture and structural design. Students learned about server rack organization, cooling systems, and overall infrastructure planning.
The second venue visited was FSID. Yashashvini Ma’am, Executive Program Manager, gave a brief introduction about FSID and the history of IISc. She explained the various initiatives functioning under FSID such as CORE, which focuses on co innovation; TIME², which collaborates with mid size enterprises; SEED, which works towards rural development; and STEM Cell, which incubates IP based startups in deep science and deep technology domains.
The students also got the opportunity to visit the iconic main building of IISc, which stands as a symbol of academic excellence and research legacy. Overall, the visit was informative and inspiring. It provided students with meaningful exposure to high performance computing infrastructure and the entrepreneurial ecosystem supporting deep science and technology innovation.
The students also visited McLaren Strategic Solutions (MSS) at their Bengaluru office as part of an industrial field visit. Founded in 2020, MSS is a technology consulting firm that describes itself as a team of Subject Matter Experts focused on modernizing legacy systems and delivering innovative digital solutions. With the mission “Creating value at digital speed,” the company primarily serves the Banking and Finance sector, along with Retail, Supply Chain, and Healthcare, leveraging cloud technologies, AI, and automation.
During the session, led by the Head of Talent Acquisition, students were introduced to the company’s global presence, leadership vision, and collaborative work culture. MSS operates with an open-door policy and a hybrid work model, promoting flexibility, teamwork, and continuous skill development. The concept of “muscle building” was emphasized, highlighting the importance of constantly sharpening technical and problem-solving abilities.
The interaction also provided valuable career guidance. Students gained insights into the hiring process, which includes an online assessment, technical interview rounds, and an HR discussion. The company stressed the importance of logical thinking, clean and structured coding, adaptability, curiosity, and strong communication skills. Overall, the visit offered meaningful exposure to industry expectations and emerging opportunities in the technology consulting domain.
