Industrial Safety & Health Training at DBCE – Building a Safer Tomorrow

A one-day training program on “Industrial Safety and Health” was organized by the Inspectorate of Factories and Boilers, Govt. of Goa in association with the FSAI DBCE Student Chapter on 11/02/2026. The event aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of Industrial Safety and their role in adapting modern safety measures.
At the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Suraj Marathe, HOD of the Mechanical Engineering Department, delivered the welcome address. Fr. Wilfred Fernandes (Director, DBCE) expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the resource speakers for enlightening the students on the importance of safety and its role in building a secure future, emphasizing the significance of precautionary measures. Prof. Aniket Naik, event coordinator, proposed the vote of thanks.

Shri Govind Lotlikar, Former DGM – Fire, Safety & Training at Zuari Agro Chemicals Ltd., highlighted the risks of neglecting safety in daily life through practical case studies and real-world examples. He explained key concepts such as accident prevention, total loss control, occupational hazards, and the direct costs of accidents. In his session on Fire Safety, he discussed the causes of fire, the fire tetrahedron, and fuel properties, and shared personal experiences of handling hazardous situations through safe practices.
Shri Gaurish Bhende, HSE Associate Director at Deccan Fine Chemicals Pvt. Ltd., introduced the various chemicals used in industries and stressed the importance of acoustic enclosures and PPEs to safeguard employees’ health and safety. He shared real-life case studies of shop-floor accidents and suggested preventive measures such as installing machine guards and safety floor markings. He also emphasized the mandatory implementation of LOTOTO (Lock Out, Tag Out, Try Out) during machine maintenance.
