Final Year Mechanical Engineering Students of DBCE Undertake Educational and Industrial Tour to North India

The Final Year Mechanical Engineering students of Don Bosco College of Engineering undertook an Educational and Industrial Tour to North India from 1st to 10th May 2026. The tour aimed to provide students with hands-on exposure to industrial operations, power generation systems, defence technologies, and environmental conservation practices, enabling them to understand their practical applications and bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and real-world engineering practices.
Visit to the Wildlife Information Centre, Manali
On May 4, the students visited the Wildlife Information Centre, Manali and gained valuable knowledge about the biodiversity, wildlife conservation, and ecological significance of the Himalayan region. The centre provided detailed information about various species of flora and fauna found in Himachal Pradesh, including endangered species such as the snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, and musk deer. They also learnt about forest conservation practices, wildlife protection measures, environmental awareness initiatives, and the role of government agencies in preserving natural habitats and maintaining ecological balance. The visit enhanced the students’ understanding of environmental sustainability and wildlife management systems.
Visit to the Malana Hydro Electric Power Plant
The visit to Malana Hydro Electric Power Plant on May 6 provided exposure to hydroelectric power generation and the functioning of a modern hydro power station. Students observed major components such as turbines, generators, control panels, transformers, and water management systems. The plant officials explained the process of converting hydraulic energy into electrical energy and highlighted the importance of renewable energy resources in sustainable power generation. Students also gained insights into plant operations, safety procedures, preventive maintenance practices, and energy management systems followed in hydroelectric power plants. The visit significantly enhanced their understanding of power generation technologies and industrial operations.
Visit to the War Museum at Wagah Border
On May 7, the students visited the War Museum at Wagah Border and gained knowledge regarding the historical, military, and strategic significance of the India–Pakistan border region. The museum displayed various defence-related exhibits, military equipment, surveillance technologies, communication systems, uniforms, and information related to national security operations. A major attraction was the display and demonstration of modern drone technology used for border surveillance and defence operations. Students learned about the application of drones in aerial monitoring, reconnaissance, real-time data acquisition, security patrolling, and intelligence gathering. Technical aspects such as drone navigation systems, imaging technologies, communication systems, and their role in modern warfare and border security were also explained. The visit further provided insights into military engineering, logistics management, surveillance systems, and operational strategies adopted for border protection. It enhanced students’ understanding of defence technologies, strategic infrastructure, and the importance of advanced technological systems in national security.

Overall the tour encouraged teamwork, discipline, communication skills, leadership qualities, and interpersonal development among the students. It also enhanced deeper appreciation of the diverse applications of mechanical engineering in modern society among students.
Dr. Suraj Marathe, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, accompanied the students throughout the educational tour and guided them during the visits and technical interactions.
