C-CODES (Council of Computer Department Engineering Students), in association with the Department of Computer Engineering and the Alumni Committee of Don Bosco College of Engineering, Goa, organized a seminar on “Large Language Models (LLMs)” for Second Year Computer Engineering students on 15th May 2026.

The session was conducted by Mr. Samuel Mesquita, an alumnus of the 2021–2025 batch, who provided valuable insights into the rapidly evolving field of Artificial Intelligence and Large Language Models. He explained that LLMs are advanced AI systems trained on vast amounts of textual data, enabling them to understand, generate, summarize, and translate human language with remarkable accuracy.

During the seminar, Mr. Mesquita introduced students to popular LLM-based applications, including ChatGPT, and discussed their widespread use in education, software development, customer support, research, and content creation. He explained the underlying principles of LLMs, highlighting the role of deep learning, neural networks, and Transformer architecture in processing and generating natural language.

The session also covered the advantages and practical applications of LLMs, demonstrating how these technologies are transforming various industries and enhancing productivity. In addition, the speaker addressed the limitations, challenges, and ethical considerations associated with AI technologies, emphasizing the importance of responsible and informed use of such tools.

The interactive seminar provided students with a deeper understanding of the growing significance of Large Language Models in modern computing and their potential impact on the future of computer science and software engineering. Students actively participated in the discussion and gained valuable knowledge about emerging AI technologies and career opportunities in this rapidly expanding field.

The event was organized under the guidance and coordination of Prof. Merwyn D’Souza, C-CODES Faculty In-charge. The seminar proved to be highly informative and enriching, equipping students with insights into one of the most influential technological advancements shaping the future of the digital world.
