5th Council Installation – ‘SEEDS’

The installation of the new First year Students Association (SEEDS) Council for the academic year 2017-18 was inaugurated on 9th September 2017, in the presence of the Chief Guest Ms. Farheen Sayed –CEO- Brushfilicks, Director – Rev Fr. Kinley D’Cruz, Principal- Dr. Neena S. P. Panandikar , Registrar- Dr. Kala Nayak and Faculty Coordinators- Asst. Prof. Gladys Da Silva and Asst.Prof. Natasha D’souza e Jaques.
SEEDS- “Stairway towards Empowering Engineering Dreams to Success’ which was initially installed in February 2014, was formed with the primary aim to provide a platform for the first year students to enhance their reasoning, creative ability and get them prepared to confidently face the challenges in the technical field. This year the theme for SEEDS 2017-18 is ‘innovation’.
The function began with a prayer song followed by an introduction to SEEDS delivered by Asst. Prof. Gladys Da Silva along with a video presentation. The dignitaries along with staff coordinators and student council watered a budding plant as a mark of nurturing the plant that symbolizes the act of helping the students of the first year to grow into successful individuals and professionals.
In his speech, Rev. Fr. Kinley D’cruz congratulated the students for their enthusiasm and advised them on 3 points: Love what you do and do what you love, Ask questions, Opt for a hands on experience and one will never regret enrolling in an engineering course. He further wished them success in their future endeavors and advised them to expand their skills, using their skills in an innovative, creative and interesting way.
Dr. Neena Panandikar encouraged the students to dream and to excel in their careers. She stressed that a dream with faith leads to belief and belief with patience and time leads to a dream come true.
Ms.. Farheen Sayed informed the students that technology is progressing every day and the world is changing at a high pace. She informed them that India is one of the leading countries in having the most number of startups today. She further stressed upon that every field has equal scope and it all depends on how the student copes with it.

Registrar- Dr. Kala Nayak introduced the newly inducted council members:
Chairperson- Shivlay Nayak ; Treasurer- Allan Luis ; Secretary- Renvick Fernandes
Class members: F.E.. Mechanical – Ashwin Palyekar ; F.E. ETC – Valini D’Silva ; F.E. Computer- Stella Tom ; F.E. Civil – Divyesh Naik.
Dr. Kala Nayak administered the oath to the students and the outgoing council handed over the charge to the newly inducted council.
Each member of the outgoing council were presented a memento for their marvelous contribution towards SEEDS 2016-17.
Mr. Shivlay Nayak- Chairperson, read out the plans for SEEDS 2017-18, in which he expressed the need to address the theme’ Innovation’ through conducting competitions showcasing mini projects, organizing field visits, conducting workshops for imparting technology to the underprivileged and creating awareness in the area of the garbage problem faced in India today.
Certificates were distributed to the winners of events in SEEDS 2016-17 and a certificate of appreciation was handed over to Mr. Shane Mazarello for his brilliant performance and scoring 100% in Engineering Mathematics –II.
Mr. Shane Mazarello also shared his views with the first year students on how to excel in their studies. He mentioned to the students that they should have a craving to gain knowledge in an individual subject besides the need to score marks in order to excel.
The Inaugural concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Renvick Fernandes.
The function was compered by Ms. Shania and Mr. Alan Luis.
Thereafter, the event continued with an interactive session delivered by Ms. Farheen Sayed who spoke on innovation and the building up of startups . She sighted a few examples of a journey of an entrepreneur and how one can be successful in putting forth their ideas innovatively.
The next event held was a technical quiz comprising of Round 1, Round 2 and a Final Round that tested the minds of students towards awareness of general knowledge and emerging technology. Students from First year Mechanical ; Vivian Viegas, Balesh Mayekar, Johan Silveira emerged as winners.
The Final round for Debate ‘ Do violent video games contribute to youth violence? ’ saw the First year Computer and First year ETC students enthusiastically and strongly voice their opinions for and against the topic. The judges, Asst. Prof. Avil D’sa and Asst. Prof. Ameiy Kerkar declared First year Computer students: Ms. Stella Tom and Ms. Sakshi Kadam the winners.
An interesting Math Relay comprising of three rounds was conducted, in which the students were tested at what speed they could provide the right answers to mathematical problems. The First year ETC: Abhishek Dhumvad, Govindsingh Rathod, Saurabh Prabhu , Juella De Oliveira bagged the first place.

At the end of the day, Dr. Carmo Gracias a representative of Lusophone Society of Goa addressed the students with regards to the initiatives taken by the Society for the Portuguese speaking community.
