The students of Second Year Computer Engineering attended a Blender Workshop on 11th August 2018. Blender is one of many 3d graphics software applications, used to create a virtual representation of anything; including things that don’t exist. 3D content is heavily utilized today in video games, film and television, marketing, architecture, medicine and engineering.

Blender was written in 1995 by Tom Roosendaal, who wrote the software for a Dutch animation studio, NeoGeo. Later , Roosendaal convinced his investors to convert Blender to A GNU general public license and Blender has been a free software ever since.

This workshop was delivered by Prof. Maria Christina Barretto and is set to be completed in the course of two sessions. The content for session 1 was designed to get the students familiar with using Blender’s interface. Topics covered during session 1 included Blender mouse options, keyboard and num-pad options/shortcuts, user operation within the 3d viewport, basic transformation, camera setup, and rendering and selection types.
